*An article I wrote for SPICE TV‘s site
While we’ve been focused on ‘Unity’ so far this December, and after what seems like an eternity of being pregnant, Kim Kardashian-West has finally given birth to her second child, bringing a baby boy into the famous family fold.
And, with the clan having a popularity rivalled only by Prince William and Princess Kate, or Beyonce and Jay-z (English and Hip Hop royalty, respectively) we’re sure to be in for a whole lot of press coverage and pictures of the new addition – which started with an announcement via Kim’s site that “Mother and son are doing well” and the leaked pics of the birth suite she opted for (a $4,000-a-night room at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles).
But below are 5 things we at SPICE think we can all expect to see, hear and read about next – because, you know, this is baby Yeezus.
1. THAT BIG NAME REVEAL
With the twosome combining for the most powerful force in pop culture, setting trends is part of life being ‘Kimye’. Just last year, Kim set a trend for ‘breaking the internet’ and Kanye went about creating ‘practical’ fashion and made a case for chasing one’s dreams, despite what people think.
And in terms of baby names? Well, while North might not have featured on 2015′s ‘most popular’ list, it sure is unique (especially with her surname making the moniker sound like a word association game) and continues the trend of celebrity ‘anti’ names – a trend that has Gwyneth Paltrow’s Apple at the forefront, and Bey’s Blue Ivy also in the quirky name club.READ MORE: CHRISSY TEIGEN ON NAMING BABY AFTER INSTAGRAM FILTER
Will the Wests go for South, East or double up with West West? Wht about Wild Wild, or the internet’s favourite, Easton West? Or maybe they will jump on the trend of naming children after Instagram filters, like Chrissy Teigen’s thought about doing?
Whatever they go with, we know we’ll be talking about it for a few weeks after that big, social media reveal, which will no doubt take place on ‘momager’ Kris Jenner’s word – no sooner or later.
2. THAT INEVITABLE FIRST BABY PIC
Will it be a cute solo shot? Will it be a family portrait? Or will it be a Kanye and son reinactment of that ‘a King is born’ scene from Disney’s The Lion King?
We don’t know, but odds are it’ll be Instagram filtered to perfection and shared via either parent’s social feeds, or on Kim’s website. And we also bet we will swoon.READ MORE: 10 STYLE SIGNS NORTH WILL BE A GREAT BIG SISTER
While North’s was revealed on her nanny, Kris Jenner’s chatshow and was hella cute, we reckon her baby brother’s first picture may even score double adorbs points if it depicts North kissing her newborn sibling on the forehead, which we know we’re going to double-tap on sight. Our thumbs. Are. Poised.
3. THAT AMAZING SPREAD IN SOME TOP MAG, PROBABLY VOGUE
Just like the family shoot that Vogue shared in their April’14 issue, we know we’ll be seeing an editorial showing off the full West clan.
But instead of the whole, ‘let’s be seen using our iPads to share pictures on the internet’-vibe, captured in these shots by Anna Leibovitz, maybe it’ll have Kanye taking the inside leg measurement of his newborn son, while lucidly sketching out some amazing ensemble he’s going to create?
Or maybe the entire clan will be seen on the floor besides a Christmas tree, fire burning as they all play Kim’s new app?
We actually don’t care about the composition. We just need to see a family portrait via the lens of a top photographer in a top fashion magazine. Please and thank you.READ MORE: SEE BEHIND-THE-SCENES VIDEO OF KIMYE’S SHOOT WITH VOGUE!
4. THE HIS’N’HERS KIDS COLLECTION
With both parents having a foot in the fashion industry, Kim having her range of baby wear titled Kardashian Kids, and Kanye now a designer in his own right, we’re certain we’ll soon see a range of childrenswear (read: children’s swag) for little boys and girls that acts like a his’n’hers – a likelihood now that the Wests have ‘the full set.’
We predict it’ll match or at least compliment each other (leather skinnies for him, leather joggers for her?) and be available in black and white only – the family’s fave colours.
Or maybe there’ll be a unisex, ‘solution-based’ line following the vibes at Kanye’s New York Fashion Week showcases, available in neutrals, like the khaki, brown and beige ‘Ye sent his models out in?
Who knows. And who cares? The world will be waiting, ready to snap it up.
5. THE BABY BALMAIN CAMPAIGN
Call us crazy, but we reckon a Balmain campaign may be on its way for the two littlest West’s one day – or even the whole family, as a foursome.
Because with Mother and Father West having shared the lens for Balmain’s Spring/Summer’15 menswear collection, does it not seem acceptable to expect a mini version to soon follow, now that both icons have a mini-me?
North has been seen in many top labels and is like the poster girl for baby designer wear, regularly being snapped in adorable outfits that many adults could only wish for. Now that there’s a baby boy in the star family ready to inspire guys to step their wardrobes up, we don’t doubt that some top fashion genius will be out to make the most of the opportunity for major publicity. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if that business conversation hadn’t already taken place, securing the brother-sister duo as future brand ambassadors.READ MORE: SEE KIMYE FOR BALMAIN’S S/S/15 COLLECTION CAMPAIGN
In fact, Balmain already focused on “the unconditional love of siblings” for its Autumn/Winter’15 campaign, which included the new West’s aunts, Kendall and Kylie, as well as top fashion siblings Erika and Joan Smalls, and Armando and Fernando Cabral.
But even if the eternally on-the-pulse-of-social-media, Mr Oliver Rousteing is not the one do it, we do know whichever brand secures them as faces, the collaboration will certainly continue the family’s habit of breaking the internet.
But what do you expect see from the Kardashian-West clan? Tell us what you predict we’ll see in the press now that Kim and Kanye have welcomed their new baby boy.
