Last night, the highly anticipated 2015 CFDA Awards took place in New York’s Lincoln Center, honouring the designers (and Fashion Icon of the Year, Pharrell Williams) for their achievements in fashion.
And, from the red carpet to inside the Alice Tully Hall venue, the industry’s stars shone in their ensembles, leaving us to ponder over our favourites.
See our best dressed here below in our Style Special from the night;
Kim Kardashian-West and her husband Kanye stepped out for the first time since revealing news of their second child on the way (seen our thoughts on style icon Nori being a big sis, here?)
The expecting star wore a sheer Proenza Schouler gown with eyelets, that were matched right down to the straps across her toes, while Kanye hung in Kim’s shadow wearing a black suit and printed pair of kicks, allowing the mum-to-be to take all the attention.
Sudanese supermodel Alek Wek jumped back onto our radar with a monochrome, plunged-neck and thigh-slit number by H&M and a flower in her hair.
Ms Wek was a sight for sore eyes having been M.I.A from runways and red carpets for a little while now, but dressed like this? We can forgive her.
Model Chrissy Teigen arrived in a sleek yet structured and strapless Solace London gown with a center split that apparently malfunctioned at the event, tearing to new heights…
Here though, she’s the picture of perfection in her form-fitting look, completed by Stuart Weitzman sandals and seemingly came out without her favourite accessory – her husband.
Kenyan beauty, Liya Kebede arrived looking as ravishing as ever in her fun Altuzarra gown. We at SPICE love the print and the colour against her complexion, plus those uber strappy heels? Killer.
Model stunner, Joan Smalls looked just amazing in her Calvin Klein ensemble, which saw herself unzipped at both ends. The deep smoky eye and centre-parted pony helped pull the look together though with a perfect finish.
Rebellious model Binx Walton was joined by a designer equally known for his boisterous style, Shayne Oliver of Hood By Air. The talent had Ms Walton wearing one of his creations, which came caped and cutout and looked like a match made in heaven for Binx.
The sweet-faced Egyptian-Morrocan model, Imaan Hammam wore Creatures of the Wind for the CFDAs, allowing her famed curls to be coiffed a little for an unruly take on an up ‘do. And doesn’t she look just gorgeous!
Hollywood actress Amanda Seyfried, who’s also known for her angelic good-looks, came dressed in a beaded and feathered bodice, worn with a sheer and sequinned skirt.
The Rodarte look was a grown up and playful look for the star – one that Team SPICE fully appreciated seeing on the red carpet. #LoveThis!
Making less effort (and why not, the award’s been in the bag for months), Pharrell and his wife Helen Lasichanh stepped out in their usual, casual attire, all be it much better styled than our own version of chill.
Wearing matching amounts of prints and his’n’her’s leather jackets, the duo reminded the CFDA exactly why Mr Williams made Fashion Icon of the Year, and that personal style doesn’t budge for any event’s dress code.
Bringing punk vibes with her sky scraping platforms, Ms Ewers glittered in her gold, embellished minidress, while the designer did his thing in swish head-to-toe black.
Victoria Beckham was also on the guest list for the CFDAs, the Spice Girl-turned-designer opting for a slinky black gown and a messy, low ponytail. #Chic.
Meanwhile, designer icon, Diane von Furstenberg brought her elegant self to the event in one of her printed dresses, keeping classy in monochrome and her signature waved hair.
Designer duo at Suno, Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty dressed and guested French model Anais Mali at the event, taking moment to be snapped with the beauty on the red carpet.
We love their flower embellished dress, which had sheer lace as its foundation, and the quirky earrings and feminine styling of the outfit was just perfection.
Empire actress Taraji P Henson gave a little leg in her halter neck Vera Wang dress, which trailed the floor in deep red. Taraji’s been doing the rounds on the red carpets lately, and it seems she’s found a formula when it comes to dressing that we at SPICE like seeing on the star.
Singer Janelle Monae also came out to stun in a Tadashi Shoji ensemble made up of a highly embellished cape in gold and white. Ms Monae’s signature red lip and black liner remained though, with a highlight being the braided version of her staple quiff.
Womenswear of the Year award-winners, the Olsen Twins wore all black everything (a pretty standard look for these two) with – shocker – flats on the red carpet.
The effortlessly chic duo didn’t disappoint in the chic-stakes, and Team SPICE are forever in love with their ‘I didn’t try but I did nail it’ hair styling.
Celebrity stylist June Ambrose arrived in a show-stopping look that included a head wrap and floor-sweeping, red Zac Posen gown which we could hardly ignore.
Underneath the gown were a pair of Donald Robertson x Brian Atwood, lipstick print heels which clashed perfectly with the Donald Robertson turban on June’s head. #Wowzers…
Singer-slahs-actress, Carmen Ejogo and jewellery designer Monique Péan looked a stylish pair in their textured ensembles and strappy heels. Friends who slay together, stay together and by that measure, these two should remain close for a long while yet. #Werk…
Actress Katie Holmes kept her look simple in a Ralph Lauren Collection dress in a hue that Team SPICE love: olive, which suits every skin tone out there. The column dress fit her figure well and worked wondrously with her barley-coiffed ‘bed hair.’
And last on our list, singer Tinashe made her debut at the CFDAs in a baggy Public School outfit that included combat boots, baggy pants and a scarf-shawl. While it couldn’t be further from the more glitzy get-up of the night’s other attendees, she did at least pull this off well. And hey, if the Fashion Icon of the Year, Pharrell came casual…
But what did you think of the guests’ ensembles? Was there a look we left off the list? Let us know your thoughts on the 2015 CFDA Awards in the comments box or online @SPICETVAFRICA.
